Then we went on to our gite which was just south of Brive. There is lots to see around there and we spent each day exploring all the different villages. There are a lot of "un des plus beaux villages de France" around. Collonges la Rouge was almost like a tourist park as opposed to a village. That was the closest and busiest of the places of interest.
There are some gardens which are definitely worth a visit and some palces where the Dordogne River can been seen from high. There are lots of fortified towns and lots of cute villages. Our village was also very pretty. We only went around once to have a look at their village fete. There were lots of cows being judged - beats me what the actual categories were.
There was a rather interessting architectural feature in a church in ???. They obviously restored the original church and the architect came up with the idea of fusing old and new by putting in a pair of very large doors. I thought it worked really well.
We went to Rocamadour which was rather fabulous and rather devoid of tourist. The thing to see is the Virgin and Baby which is suposedly a miracle. I reckon it was the priest who was in charge who made it all up so that people would go there.
I know it is a bit dark! There was no light and I had no tripod. The thing you are suppose to believe is that the baby Jesus (with an adults face) is not physically attached to Mary. It is so dark and so far away that noone can really say that it is true or not. Another major con by the church.
The best bit was the bird park. I would definitely recommend that. As you can see, it looks as if Toby enjoyed himself too. I realised now that I only took 4 pictures of Toby during the entire holiday. I made up for it in the amount of time he appears on the video
